Who's Abusing Your Rights?

READ THE FULL COMPLAINT

These are the abuses detailed in CCIA's complaint.

NFL

The NFL tells viewers, in effect, that they may not talk about the game with their friends without permission. Try as it might, the NFL does not have complete control over any pictures, descriptions, or accounts' of football games. Despite what they tell you, your account of the game over the workplace watercooler is not a felony.

MLB

The New York Mets tell their viewers that they must receive WRITTEN permission prior to relating accounts of the game.

Furthermore, the MLB wants viewers to get the written permission of the Commissioner of Baseball himself before talking about the game.

Professional sports leagues are not alone in misleading the public. Hollywood studios are doing the same, threatening consumers for exercising their rights. You can see these sorts of statements here:

Publishing

Publishers are in on it too. Here are some printed examples of what CCIA complained about.

RepublicOfPirates

TheLostMen

What should copyright holders be telling you? There are many ways to assert a copyright without misleading the public. For example, here is how CCIA does it.
